I Enjoy Being a Girl - Doris Day

*My brother dedicates this song to me. I couldn't agree more. Tee-hee!*

I ENJOY BEING A GIRL
Doris Day
Peggy Lee

* * *
I'm a girl, and by me that's only great!
I am proud that my silhouette is curvy,
That I walk with a sweet and girlish gait
With my hips kind of swivelly and swervy.

I adore being dressed in something frilly
When my date comes to get me at my place.
Out I go with my Joe or John or Billy,
Like a filly who is ready for the race!

When I have a brand new hairdo
With my eyelashes all in curl,
I float as the clouds on air do,
I enjoy being a girl!

When men say I'm cute and funny
And my teeth aren't teeth, but pearl,
I just lap it up like honey
I enjoy being a girl!

I flip when a fellow sends me flowers,
I drool over dresses made of lace,
I talk on the telephone for hours
With a pound and a half of cream upon my face!

I'm strictly a female female
And my future I hope will be
In the home of a brave and free male
Who'll enjoy being a guy...

Soul Sounds Joyful Retreat: Paul & cancer survivors in Cebu

From their "press release":

The KAHAYAG Network of Cancer Support Groups, Janssen Pharmaceutica and other friends of Kahayag, sponsored a day of joyful retreat for cancer survivors, their friends, families and caregivers last June 21, 2008 at the Sacred Heart Center, Cebu City, Philippines. It was a day of music and drum therapy. We were blessed to have Marq Dollentes, Paul Zialcita and Chip Childers as guest facilitators. Healing facilitated by music and rhythm traces back from indigenous healing traditions, spanning different cultures worldwide. It is a form of mind body spirit medicine technique that was widely used before and rarely used now. The energy generated by the rhythm and music of a group raises the state of well being of the people in that group. And when we surrender to the music and rhythm, as we lose our attachments to ego, personality and other things, we enter that state of intense joy and peace... the state where HEALING happens naturally.

In a short time, this tiny snowball can become a force to be reckoned with. We humans are like this when it comes to exchanging energy and vision, and no matter how few people are involved at the beginning, there is the potential for massive change. As consciousness seekers, we are in the midst of this process, and it is amazing to see people we thought might never come around, waking up to their truth. Each time we see this, we can count ourselves blessed to be living at a time when the awareness of humanity seems to be at a tipping point, as more and more individuals open their minds and change their ways.

For some people, this revolves around an awareness of the environment, for others it is a spiritual awakening, and for many it is both. Our lives consist of everything we engage in, from showering to sleeping, but also a lot of busy work that distracts us and keeps us from looking at our lives. Experiencing our life from the inside means taking time each day to simply be alone and quiet in the presence of our soul. Many of us are so out of practice that it’s almost unnerving to have a moment to ourselves. As a result, we may have stopped trying to carve out that time to take a seat at the center of our lives.

One of the reasons it can be uncomfortable to sit with ourselves is because when we do, we tend to open ourselves to an inner voice, which might question the way we’re living or some of the choices we’re making. Sometimes the voice reminds us of our secret, inner yearnings, dreams we thought we had forgotten. When we already feel overwhelmed by our busy sc...

An innovation workshop by one of the greatest minds I've ever come to work with

Photoshop Labor of Love #1: Krakatoom!

Paul wanted something bright and "bahaghari-ish" for his site, so I decided to play around with Photoshop and see how I could try to capture the feel of the rainbow colors that he wanted.

His instructions: nothing girlie, kikay, or mushy.
The result: Something trippy and psychedelic--just the way we want it.

">Just for today, everything seems much lighter.
And better.
Maybe because I've finally learned to let go
Of old expectations, old deadlines, old worries...

And open myself up to
New horizons, new hopes and dreams, new visions.

I still don't know how things will turn out, but at least now I can look forward to the future with excitement, instead of fear.<br style="font-family: trebuchet ms;

Fashion Forecast 2008: A great synergy of creative forces

I felt TOTALLY like Carrie Bradshaw on Saturday when I got all dolled up for Fashion Forecast 2008, held at the Rockwell Tent. For once, I thoroughly enjoyed myself being away from my comfort zone (political meetings and youth gatherings, hahaha)--but maybe it was because I came with great company (my brother Alex, my eternal date during such events) to support a great cause (Rags 2 Riches, a social enterprise run by some kindred spirits), and saw genuinely great stuff.

The designer whose creations resonated with me that night was Roxy Roco. I loooove her dress details and her hats! Maybe I should look for an event to match a hat that I can have made. Or, then again, who needs an event when you have a beautiful hat?

How to Live With Just 100 Things - TIME

*Interesting article on Time.com. I'm not sure if I can live with just 100 things--how about my books and magazines??--but the article does offer some food for thought for the rainy day purging ahead. - N*

Excess consumption is practically an American religion. But as anyone with a filled-to-the-gills closet knows, the things we accumulate can become oppressive. With all this stuff piling up and never quite getting put away, we're no longer huddled masses yearning to breathe free; we're huddled masses yearning to free up space on a countertop. Which is why people are so intrigued by the 100 Thing Challenge, a grass-roots movement in which otherwise seemingly normal folks are pledging to whittle down their possessions to a mere 100 items.

Life Transitions: The Death And Rebirth Of Self

*I received this Daily Om in my inbox the same day I received from the Universe an Answer that is changing the course of my life as I write this. I am anxious and nervous--there are still so many steps ahead--and yet also giddy and excited. I am one of those people who have built up a protective shell around me, only to now feel the need to tear it down and fly off. May this Daily Om be a reminder to all of us who are going through important life transitions (and I know there are many of us here!) - N*

Taken from The Daily Om

Sometimes a part of us must die before another part can come to life. Even though this is a natural and necessary part of our growth, it is often painful or, if we don’t realize what’s happening, confusing and disorienting. In fact, confusion and disorientation are often the messengers that tell us a shift is taking place within us. These shifts happen throughout the lives of all humans, as we move from infancy to childhood to adolescence and beyond. With each trans...

Old friends, '80s music, and dancing at Tropezz

I hadn't been to a Girls' Night Out in AGES, and this was one I truly enjoyed! Shirley, Rose, Jennee (fresh from Singapore) and I got all dolled up (without planning it), had Sex and the City moments, and had a blast reminiscing and dancing with '80s music. Thanks to Jessie who was oh-so-game as our photographer and honorary girl of the night!

Jamie, Vic, Mix, and Maan, we missed you! (But we agreed that four girls was a pretty good number that night =P)

Avenue Q: The Farewell Run

I watched the right musical at the right time.

Between thinking about how I've spent my nine years after college (nine--can you believe it??), clarifying my "purpose," wanting the make a difference, and wanting to "go back to college," I realized that there are, indeed, so many things that a college degree will never teach you but real life will. Harshly sometimes, but quite effectively.

Throughout the production, I kept feeling little stings on my chest: Princeton looking for his purpose, Kate Monster singing about her dream, even Ron complaining about his messy roommate (hahaha) and Christmas Eve singing about how you hurt even more when you love someone. Most of the characters and the scenes formed a composite that looks A LOT like my life. (Avenue Q is a lot like our condo and the squacky neighbors we've got. Yes, I'm a little bit racist, too.) Or my fears. Or my regrets. Thank goodness I'm not a Gary Coleman yet--I haven't reached the peak of my career to say that it's all g...

TEAM RP exposes stories on corruption; check out Sa Totoo Tayo Blog now!

As part of our Freedom Day celebration, TEAM RP, a non-partisan, non-religious youth-led reform-oriented movement, yesterday launched the Sa Totoo Tayo Blog (satotootayo.blogspot.com), which aims to gather and publicize accounts of corruption caused or tolerated by a lack of access to information and government documents that are supposedly in public domain.

On March 10, TEAM RP launched the Sa Totoo Tayo online signature campaign to petition Congress to urgently pass a Philippine Access to Information Law to provide explicit procedures in allowing public access to government documents. On March 14, TEAM RP held a "truth caravan" in the University Belt area, Intramuros and some schools in Quezon City.

The bill on Freedom to Information has been already approved by the House of Representatives and is now pending passage in the Senate.

TEAM RP said that the absence of PAIL makes it difficult even for government agencies to access documents from other government agencies and th...

Heaven's bureaucracy

I asked for certain things, and the Universe answered right away.

So I responded back.

This time, the answer is coming in installments. First one "answer" that led to a decision, next another "half-answer" that's keeping me in suspense. THEN I'll need to work on something else, that will lead to yet another answer (which I will know of in October), which will lead to yet another decision.

The answers come immediately, but the follow-ups are taking a bit of time. I'm thinking, maybe the Universe/God/The Creator/etc. has an auto-responder that says, "We are working to process your request. In the meantime, please try to live your life and enjoy the view along the way."

I guess even Heaven has a bureaucracy after all. The difference is that, when dealing with them, you can't just stand idly in line. The ones who get responded to first are those that find ways to help themselves before their numbers are called.
JMax is back! ( a sneak peak into The John Maxwell Leadership Summit)

John Maxwell loves the Philippines, and he made that clear during yesterday's John Maxwell Leadership Summit, held at the EDSA Shangri-la. There were around 900 to 1,000 participants in the live session, and around 8,000 participants in the 11 simulcast sites all around the country.

It was my first time to see Maxwell live in action, and it was soooo funny when, towards the tail-end of the session, he went on and on about how much he loved Krispy Kreme and practically went crazy when he found out that WE in the Philippines get our Krispy Kremes for FREE when the red light goes on. Wish I could've caught that on
