My first trip out as a member of the international press for the 11th Rainforest World Music Festival at Sarawak, Malaysia! http://www.sarawaktourism.com/And the best part is: Pinikpikan is performing, with my beloved in it!

It's a very apt theme, considering the epiphanies that I've experienced lately. So, YES, I will be joining July's run of Romancing Venus at Mag:net Katipunan, where I will be reading an essay (and possibly a poem). Please do celebrate these epiphanies with me, and the liberation that comes with it, and join me on that night!

| | I felt TOTALLY like Carrie Bradshaw on Saturday when I got all dolled up for Fashion Forecast 2008, held at the Rockwell Tent. For once, I thoroughly enjoyed myself being away from my comfort zone (political meetings and youth gatherings, hahaha)--but maybe it was because I came with great company (my brother Alex, my eternal date during such events) to support a great cause (Rags 2 Riches, a social enterprise run by some kindred spirits), and saw genuinely great stuff.
The designer whose creations resonated with me that night was Roxy Roco. I loooove her dress details and her hats! Maybe I should look for an event to match a hat that I can have made. Or, then again, who needs an event when you have a beautiful hat? => |
PEPE GOES TO MARKET ang tawag nila dito.

| | John Maxwell loves the Philippines, and he made that clear during yesterday's John Maxwell Leadership Summit, held at the EDSA Shangri-la. There were around 900 to 1,000 participants in the live session, and around 8,000 participants in the 11 simulcast sites all around the country.
It was my first time to see Maxwell live in action, and it was soooo funny when, towards the tail-end of the session, he went on and on about how much he loved Krispy Kreme and practically went crazy when he found out that WE in the Philippines get our Krispy Kremes for FREE when the red light goes on. Wish I could've caught that on video! |

The Rainforest World Music Festival is a unique festival that brings together on the same stage renowned world musicians from all continents and indigenous musicians from the interiors of the mythical island of Borneo. Its formula of afternoon informative workshops, ethno-musical lectures, jamming sessions and mini concerts, followed by evening performances on the main stage has proven to be a hit with the audience, who come from near and far. The festival site also sets up a variety of food and drink stalls, an arts and crafts area as well as a counter for festival memorabilia, Sarawak souvenirs and CDs by the performing artists, all this contributing to a fun filled, wholesome festival experience. World Music plus a country fair atmosphere in the midst of lush greenery. The Rainforest World Music Festival, a not-to-be-missed occasion, guarantees a smashing time in the heart of the Borneo Jungle ! http://www.rainforestmusic-borneo.comThis year's RWMF features: 1) Ross Daly Quartet (Greece), 2) Kasai Masai (Congo/UK), 3) Hiroshi Motofuji (Japan), 4) Oikyataan (India), 5) Cholo Valderamma (Colombia), 6) New Rope String Band (UK), 7) Yakande (Gambia/Guinea), 8) Pinikpikan (Philipppines), 9) Adel Salameh (Palestine), 10) Fadomorse (Portugal), 11) Beltaine (Poland), 12) Sheldon Blackman & The Love Circle (Trinidad & Tobago), 13) Orchestra Anak Jati Bisaya (Sarawak, Malaysia), 14) Sarawak Cultural Village (SeniDa), 15) Kan'id (Sarawak)

Can't wait for the next gig =D |
You may not be able to see the images because, apparently, my camera's video function doesn't work well with light. BUT, close your eyes and enjoy the drum and percs highlight of this segment, c/o Paul on percussion (conga, mainly) and Chong on drums. That's Paul's slapping the conga at high speed toward the latter part of this clip.

The mission: To capture some of the country's GREATEST musicians while in the act of a totally high-octane performance. (It was, to the novice chronicler that I was and still am, like attempting to capture an F1 race--the act totally zoomed from 0 to 200+mph in just a few seconds!)
The cosmic conspirators: Sammy, Louie, Chiong, and Budeths (a.k.a. SPY!)--with Paul sitting in!
The result: The Nini got totally, happily tired out (and slept for most of the next day!)

The Practicality of Believing in Others: 7 Things to Try By Niña Terol
There are many times in our lives when it’s difficult to trust other people, when it’s easier to put on a defensive stance. However, when we are defensive—closed—we prevent the flow of new ideas; we hurt our chances for synergy and the rewards we can reap from this. When trust is absent, everything—from families and organizations to systems and nations—can fall apart.
On the other hand, when people trust in each other and believe in the inherent goodness in the other, they give each other space to grow and stretch their wings—paving the way for great leaders and greater teams. Leadership guru John Maxwell shares seven tips for developing belief and trust in others in his leadership book, Relationships 101.
1. Believe in people even before they succeed. Maxwell writes: “Every person has seeds of greatness within, even though they may currently be dormant. But when you believe in people, you water the seeds and give them the chance to grow.”
2. Emphasize their strengths. Give others a chance to develop their own inclinations and enable them to become more productive. “By emphasizing people’s strengths, you’re helping them believe that they possess what they need to succeed,” Maxwell observes. And, more often than not, success is infectious.
3. List their past successes. According to Maxwell: “If you can show others that they have done well in the past and help them see that their past victories have paved the way for future success, they’ll be better able to move into action.” Help others get “un-stuck” by reminding them of past victories so that they can move forward and achieve their objectives.
4. Instill confidence when they fail. How many of us have experienced a time when we stumbled and simply needed someone to help us back up on our feet? “Show them that success is a journey—a process, not a destination,” Maxwell admonishes. “When they realize that you have failed and yet still managed to succeed, they’ll realize that it’s okay to fail. And their confidence will remain intact.”
5. Experience some wins together. According to Maxwell, “To help people believe they can achieve victory, put them in a position to experience small successes... Give them the assistance they need to succeed. In time as their confidence grows, they will take on more difficult challenges, but they will be able to face them with confidence and competence because of [their] positive track record...”
6. Visualize their future success. Maxwell points out: “Each time you cast a vision for others and paint a picture of their future success, you build them up, motivate them, and give them reasons to keep going.” One common trait of all successful companies and organizations is their adherence to a common vision. What is your vision for yourself? For your family, organization, community, or country? If you can see your destination, you’ll more easily be able to reach it.
7. Expect a new level of living. When we awaken in others the possibility that they can become bigger and better than they currently are, more often than not, they will strive harder and aim higher. Maxwell urges: “Make it your goal to help others see beyond today and their current circumstances and dream big dreams. When you put your faith in people, you help them expand their horizons and motivate them to move to a whole new level of living.”
Believing in others is healthy not only for the individual or the organization in question, but also for the society that does the believing. To learn more about how belief, trust, faith, and relationships can lead you to greater success, join The John Maxwell Leadership Summit on June 10, 2008, at the Edsa Shangri-la Hotel, Mandaluyong City, Metro Manila. The fourth installment of WhyNot? Forum is all about good governance. I'm even leaving the Team RP GA a bit earlier just to try to catch this. Click on the link to see why Ü Link
SHAMELESS PLUGGING: This was one of the many corporate events that Paul had performed in this year. It's been a busy, busy 2008 for both of us--but at least his engagements bring with them some really nice photos!Ü Link

| | It's been a crazy (and crazy-good!) past two months for me, and I'm sure you're aware of the political involvements that have kept me both high and grounded at the same time. In the midst of all the crises and controversies that have rocked the nation over the past few months, some of us have been gathering and working to build a team that will work for true and lasting reforms in Philippine government, coupled with the necessary push for truth and accountability. We are not pro- or anti- anyone in particular, but we do recognize that change is necessary--even urgent. We at Team RP are gearing up for more activities and programs over the next few months. We have barely touched the surface of our campaigns for truth, accountability, and reform, but--this time--we plan to go deep. Please join us at the first-ever TEAM RP GENERAL ASSEMBLY next Saturday, 26 April 2008, 1PM, at the foyer of Club Filipino, Greenhills, San Juan. This will be your chance to see Team RP's officers in action, get to know our plans and programs for the next few months, and see if this is, indeed, an organization worth supporting.
This invitation is open to anyone and everyone who wishes to support our programs (so please pass on to friends who are looking for a productive outlet for all that rage!), but please confirm your attendance through the numbers indicated in the invitation. We're up for a very exciting next few months, and it would be even better if we would have folks like you with us! --
*Please open the photo to view your invitation* We look forward to seeing you there!
